What is the Rhodes Scholarship?

One of the oldest and most prestigious scholarships in the world, the Rhodes Scholarship supports 2-3 years of study at the University of Oxford in all fields.

Who is eligible to apply?

Rhodes Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident for at least five years by October 1 of the year of application, or citizen of one of the other Rhodes countries. (i.e., Australia, Bermuda, Botswana, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Jamaica & the Commonwealth Caribbean, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Namibia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Palestine, South Africa, Swaziland, Syria, UAE, West Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe).
  2. At least 18 but not yet 24 by October 1 of the year of application.*
  3. Hold a bachelor’s degree before October 1 of the year that study at Oxford would commence.

Next Steps

You must complete the following steps in order to apply for the University of Notre Dame endorsement for the Rhodes Scholarship.

  1. Review the eligibility requirements on this page to ensure that you are (or will be) eligible to apply.
  2. Review the calendar of events and deadlines on this page to ensure that the campus application deadlines have not passed.
  3. Complete the brief Declaration of Interest form and submit a resume via email to fellows@nd.edu.
  4. Complete the application for University endorsement:
    1. If it is before the Spring Endorsement Application Deadline, complete the Spring Application for University Endorsement (Google Form; requires login with @nd.edu or @alumni.nd.edu account). We suggest that you use this PDF version to compose your responses in a word processor and then copy-and-paste them into the Google Form. Please note that you only need to submit one endorsement application, even if you are applying for endorsement for Marshall and Mitchell as well.
    2. If it is after the Spring Endorsement Application Deadline but before the Final Endorsement Application Deadline, complete the August Application for University Endorsement (Google Form; requires login with @nd.edu or @alumni.nd.edu account). We suggest that you use this PDF version to compose your responses in a word processor and then copy-and-paste them into the Google Form. Please note that you only need to submit one endorsement application, even if you are applying for endorsement for Marshall and Mitchell as well.
  5. CUSE will contact you within two weeks of your Endorsement Application Deadline with further information.
