Mission and Goals

In support of the University's mission, the Flatley Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement (CUSE) promotes the intellectual development of our undergraduates through scholarly engagement, research, creative endeavors, and the pursuit of fellowships.

  1. Stimulate the life of the mind across campus by building a scholarly community to engage and support students in intellectual and creative pursuits inside and outside of the classroom.

  2. Create opportunities for undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative endeavors in all colleges by connecting students to resources such as faculty mentors, projects, funding, and venues for presenting and publishing their work.

  3. Encourage and facilitate students' applications for nationally competitive fellowships, emphasizing the value of the process itself while furthering their intellectual growth and propelling them to greater post-graduate excellence.

In each of these capacities, CUSE mentors students and helps them discern their paths, cultivate their gifts, and attain leadership in their chosen fields. CUSE seeks to develop in our undergraduates a lifelong curiosity and a capacity for contemplating deeper questions and working for the common good.
