Study Abroad and Language Acquisition Awards

US-UK Fulbright Commission Summer Institutes

For first-year students and sophomores with little or no international experience. Funds a three-to-six week academic and cultural institutes for higher education in the UK.

Gilman International Scholarship Program

For all class levels; provides funding up to $5,000 to defray the costs of study or internships abroad during the spring, summer, or fall for students receiving federal Pell Grants. Apply in fall for spring study abroad, and in spring for summer/fall/academic year study abroad.

Critical Language Scholarship

For all class levels; provides eight to ten weeks of fully-funded overseas language and cultural immersion for the study of a language that is not commonly taught ot critical to U.S. national security. This program can build upon a Summer Language Abroad grant through the CSLC. Apply in fall.

Churchill Scholarship at Cambridge University^

The Goldwater Scholarship is for outstanding Sophomores or Juniors in the STEM fields interested in pursuing research in graduate school as well as a research-based future career. Hollings Scholarship

For those interested in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education, this award provides academic assistance (up to $9,500 per year) for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid ($700/week) internship at a NOAA facility during the summer.

Brooke Owens Fellowship

Funded internships and mentorship for exceptional women and gender minorities in aerospace.


Public Service/Government Employment Awards

Truman Scholarship

For juniors with leadership experience who plan to pursue careers in education, government, non-profit, or public interest. Offers $30,000 for graduate school and access to a powerful network of change-makers.

Scoville Peace Fellowship

A two-year graduate fellowship program that provides up to $84,000 in academic funding, summer practicums, professional development, and mentorship, and leads to a career in the Foreign Service as a Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) Special Agent. DSS Special Agents are federal law enforcement officers responsible for the security of Foreign Service personnel, property, and sensitive information around the world.
